The Ortofon 2M Bronze is a significant upgrade compared to the 2M Blue.
The technology changes by using a coil of silver-plated copper (OFC) and employing Lexan DMX for the housing. A silver-plated coil provides more detail in the high frequencies and the use of Lexan makes the body stiffer, improving overall performance.
The needle shape is a so-called nude Fine line. With this needle shape, the cutting edges of an elliptical diamond are flattened to increase the contact area in the groove. This results in better playback quality and reduced groove wear.
The needle of the Ortofon 2M Bronze is a so-called nude diamond. A diamond cylinder is first produced for a nude diamond, then a needle tip is ground onto it. The complete cylinder is then placed in the needle carrier (cantilever).
Except for the needle, the technology of the Ortofon 2M Bronze and 2M Black is identical. This allows upgrading a 2M Bronze to a 2M Black simply by replacing the needle.
