After the successful launch of small portable devices on the market, EarMen has taken it a step further and specially designed devices for you, which will truly give you unique listening pleasure. EarMen has designed a desktop fully balanced headphone amplifier with excellent features and a linear power unit.

Composite Amplifier Topology

A Composite Amplifier Topology is implemented in the CH-Amp. A composite op-amp brings the best of both worlds with excellent DC and AC characteristics. These amplifiers offer various advantages compared to other types of amplifiers.

Power amplifiers typically use thermal feedback loops, which cause serious errors when driving heavy loads. These errors occur due to self-heating. By using the composite op-amp, such errors can be rectified and the circuit’s performance improved. The composite amplifiers also provide a better DC output difference. The additional load placed on the output transistors does not affect the output voltage.

Design
We used WIMA capacitors, as well as audio electrolytic capacitors combined with MELF low-noise resistors and SoundPlus OPA1642 operational amplifiers which prove to be excellent for achieving a neutral sound. EarMen CH-Amp has excellent characteristics, a very low signal-to-noise ratio and THD, an excellent frequency response, and plenty of power, with the device’s characteristics changing very little even at high loads.

EarMen CH-Amp has two main features: preamplifier outputs and a gain switch. CH-Amp has balanced and single-ended preamplifier outputs, allowing you to connect to active monitors for a complete system. The gain switch gives you better control over both the output level and impedance, for better adaptation to your headphones.

CH-Amp is made of a full aluminum housing, making it extremely durable and robust. The compact design makes it suitable for any environment, system, or home. The circuit board is embedded in a solid aluminum housing, providing better protection for the circuit board within the housing and additional insulation against external influences.

Fully Balanced Architecture

EarMen CH-Amp is a fully balanced headphone amplifier, which means that the balanced outputs of the source go intact to the output, only amplified. From the single-end input, the signals are converted to balanced without phase shift (phase imbalance), so the obtained + and – signals are perfectly in phase. This way, we eliminate unwanted artifacts and prevent them from being added within the device.
